Oshkosh star Tyrese Haliburton part of Rising Stars game at NBA all-star weekend

Oshkosh North alumnus Tyrese Haliburton’s star continues to rise. He was named to the Rising Stars Challenge, which will be held NBA all-star weekend in Cleveland.

The second-year Sacramento Kings guard is one of 12 sophomores, 12 rookies and four G League Ignite players selected play in the challenge at 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

There is a new format for the challenge which will include a tournament featuring 4 seven-player teams that will play to a final target score.

The 21-year-old Haliburton was the No. 12 pick in the 2020 draft and was named to the all-rookie team after averaging 13 points and 5.3 assists per game. He was not able to participate in the challenge as a rookie because the league canceled the showcase amid COVID-19 concerns.

Heading into Tuesday's selection, Haliburton was averaging 14.4 points and 7.2 assists in starting every game he’s played.

The 6-foot, 5-inch guard has his jersey retired and was inducted into the Oshkosh North athletic hall of fame on Jan. 22.
