Orpheum cancels remaining 'Lion King' performances due to COVID-19 breakthrough cases

The remaining four performances of "The Lion King" at the Orpheum Theatre in Memphis have been canceled due to COVID-19 breakthrough cases.

"Although negative PCR testing allowed us to move safely forward with this afternoon’s matinee performance, breakthrough COVID-19 cases have just been detected within the touring company and local crew at The Orpheum Theatre," the Orpheum posted on its Facebook page Friday evening.

The following shows have been canceled:

  • 7:30 p.m. Friday

  • 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday

  • 1 p.m. Sunday

Both Disney and the Orpheum Theatre will continue to provide support to the affected individuals as they recover, the post stated.

All tickets for these remaining performances will be automatically refunded through Ticketmaster and the Orpheum box office, according to the statement. An email with refund information has been sent to these ticketholders.

For those who purchased through unofficial third party sellers, the Orpheum suggested contacting the reseller directly for refund information.

"The Lion King" started its run at the Orpheum on Nov. 11.

"We apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this cancellation causes ticket holders, but we trust that audiences will agree that safety must be our primary concern," the Orpheum's post read.
