Ormond Beach mother sentenced to prison for neglect of child who was killed by his father

The woman whose former boyfriend killed their son was sentenced on Friday to 12 years in state prison, according to a press release.

Stephanie Holly, 37, pleaded no contest to neglect of a child causing great bodily harm, failure to report child abuse/neglect and culpable negligence exposure to injury as part of a plea agreement, according to the press release from 7th Circuit State Attorney R.J. Larizza’s office.

Circuit Judge Dawn Nichols adjudicated Holly guilty on Friday and sentenced her to the prison term followed by eight years of probation.

A jury in April found Holly’s former boyfriend, Calib Scott, 26, guilty of first-degree murder in their son’s killing. Prosecutors sought the death penalty against Scott, but jurors returned a life recommendation.

Nichols sentenced Scott to the mandatory life in prison without parole on the first-degree murder count.

The former couple’s son, Daemon, was not quite 5 months old and weighed about 12 pounds when he was killed.

The couple and their son were living in a mobile home at 19 N. Yonge St., in Ormond Beach when Scott called 911 on June 11, 2019, to report that his son was having difficulty breathing, according to a report. Holly was at work at the time.

At the time of his death, Daemon was dehydrated; had cuts to the nose and lips; had been burned; had damage to his gums; and suffered bleeding and contusions on the brain, according to evidence and testimony at Scott's trial.

Holly failed to protect her son and report the abuse and neglect, according to the press release.
