Oregon coronavirus update, Jan 28: 7,222 cases, 19 more deaths

7,871 new cases, 19 deaths

The Oregon Health Authority reported an additional 7,222 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with 19 deaths.

There were 809 cases reported in Marion County. Polk County had 164.

Further information about the deaths and cases is expected to be released Monday.

Hospitals statewide are treating 1,125 patients with COVID-19. There are 176 patients in intensive care unit beds, seven more than Thursday. Modeling from Oregon Health and Science University predicts hospitalizations will peak within the next few days.

The state's adult ICU bed capacity is at 92% and non-ICU bed capacity is at 94%.

Public health officials are asking Oregonians to follow coronavirus public health guidelines, including wearing masks indoors and in crowded outdoor locations, keeping distance from other people and staying home when you have tested positive or suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19.

  • 620,652: Total cases of COVID-19.
