Openings remain for Runyon Sports Complex youth baseball and softball spring, summer seasons

Feb. 27—Despite cold weather and snow on the fields at times, the Runyon Sports Complex is moving forward with its spring season.

Youth baseball and softball league registration remains open until noon March 9. And teams that sign up can reserve free practice time at the fields by contacting the office at 719-583-6195.

Here's what Runyon Field has available for teams:

— Scheduled league season (The number of games will be determined by the number of teams registered and field availability)

— Free optional postseason tournament

— Discounted rates on facility reservation requests and select events

Here's what to know for sign-up or registration:

— If you are already on a team, be sure your coach registers in our league before registration closes.

— If you are not on a team, add your name to the "Players looking for teams" message board and contact coaches using the "Teams looking for players" message boards.

— Register for the March 6 2nd Annual Free Skills Camp and "Draft Day."

"We had 150 kids preregister last year," Runyon Field General Manager Greg Lasage said. "There's a lot of kids who want to play. We're doing the online message boards. We're trying to create as many opportunities as we can for kids to find a team this season."

Here's what coaches need to do:

— Put together a team using your current contacts and/or players from the "Players looking for a Team" Message board and by posting to the "Teams looking for Players" message boards.

— Complete the team roster information and submit team payment.
