Seems like a good day for a new president

Biden became the 46th president on Wednesday.

Forty-eight years after he entered Congress as the junior senator from Delaware, Biden stood on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and recited the oath of office enshrined in the Constitution - words that have been spoken by his predecessors, dating back to President George Washington. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office.

Biden called for all Americans to come together while delivering his first remarks on the same steps of the Capitol that had been overrun with rioters two weeks ago: “Unity is the path forward."

"Politics doesn’t have to be a raging fire,” Biden said during the 21-minute address, calling for Americans to “start fresh” and come together to meet the crises of the times.

A barrier-breaking ceremony

Harris made history as the first woman, and the first person of Black or Indian descent, to hold the office of vice president.

Harris, the daughter of an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, was sworn in by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, a trailblazer in her own right as the first Latina justice on the high court.

Dressed in a purple dress and overcoat, the vice president took the oath with her husband and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff looking on. (Purple was the hit color of the day).

Meanwhile ....

As President Joe Biden was giving his inaugural address, accounts on various social media sites officially changed from the Trump administration over to the Biden administration - marking the end of the 45th presidency and the start of the 46th.

On Twitter, @Transition46 now owns the White House account. Twitter transferred @POTUS from former President Donald Trump to President Joe Biden. @SenKamalaHarris has become @VP, and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden is under @FLOTUS.

Also, a new account @SecondGentleman has been created for Doug Emhoff, the country’s first-ever Second Gentleman.

What else is happening with the inauguration?

👉Amanda Gorman became the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history, performing an original poem titled "The Hill We Climb" at the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. Her powerful poem nearly stole the show.

👉Biden vowed to undo Trump's policies on the environment, immigration and other areas that dismayed Democrats and international allies. In a flurry of orders billed as "historic action on Day One," Biden plans to sign 15 executive orders and other directives in the evening, followed by several more over the next 10 days.

👉 Outgoing President Donald Trump spent his final minutes as president at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, becoming the first president in more than 150 years to skip his successor's inauguration.
