After Clemson missed out on the nation's second-ranked linebacker for 2023 on Wednesday, the team's focus narrows in on the current recruiting cycle with the early signing period now less than six weeks away.

Indiana standout Drayk Bowen announced he would play for a Notre Dame team that's only 65 miles from his home over remaining finalists Clemson and Auburn. That continued Clemson's recent cold streak of picking up verbal pledges.

The Tigers had a productive summer after the NCAA lifted the ban on in-person recruiting on June 1, allowing prospects to visit campuses and participate in coach's camps. Clemson received seven of its current 13 commitments for 2022 during June and July.

The early signing period is Dec. 15-17. According to 247Sports, Clemson currently has the nation's 10th-best recruiting class and second in the ACC behind North Carolina, which is ninth overall.

Clemson has received only one 2022 commitment since July 30, when Greenville tight end Josh Sapp announced for the Tigers on Oct. 19, less than a week after receiving an offer. His decision came in the short aftermath of the Tigers missing out on a pair of tight ends ranked among the nation's top three when former Greer star Jaleel Skinner (now at Florida's IMG Academy) opted for Alabama and Oscar Delp chose home-state Georgia from a final four that included the Tigers, South Carolina and Michigan.

Sapp checks in at No. 77 for his position and the 1,246th overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite.

The Tigers missed on two of three running backs offered for the current cycle to Alabama and Georgia and have only one remaining uncommitted player offered in Trevor Etienne, brother of all-time Clemson great Travis Etienne.

The Louisiana product is ranked the 15th-best running back and 180th overall. He lists his 10 finalists as Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, Florida State and Penn State.

Only one of Clemson's four wide receiver offers remains uncommitted with Richmond, Virginia, standout Andre Greene Jr. announcing Wednesday he will commit on Nov. 17 from finalists Clemson, Georgia and North Carolina. He's ranked as the ninth-best at his position and No. 71 overall.

The Tigers already have Myrtle Beach star receiver Adam Randall (No. 17 position-wise and 118th overall) on board after he committed last Christmas day.

Clemson has secured commitments from a pair of four-star offensive tackles in Greenville's Collin Sadler and Ohio's Blake Miller while it's third and only other current offer at the position -- Indiana five-star prospect Kiyaunta Goodwin chose Kentucky.

The team secured a commitment from one of its three quarterback offers in Austin, Texas, five-star Cade Klubnik, ranked No. 1 position-wise and 21st overall. Meanwhile, Tennessee product Ty Simpson (third and 26th) committed to Alabama and Delaware's Braden Davis (19th and 276th) chose South Carolina.

The Tigers received commitments from three of their 15 cornerback offers with Greenville's Jeadyn Lukus, Florida's Daylen Everette and Illinois' Toriano Pride all ranking among the nation's top 15 at the position. Versatile commit Jaren Kanak out of Kansas (currently playing both ways for his high school) is projected as a safety or outside linebacker at the next level.

Were the Tigers to add another safety the most likely uncommitted contenders would be Nevada's Zion Branch, ranked 50th overall and No. 4 at his position. He has the Tigers, Alabama, Ohio State and Oklahoma as finalists and is scheduled to make an official visit to Clemson Nov. 12-14 when Connecticut comes to Death Valley.

Another uncommitted safety holding a Clemson offer is Miami four-star Alfonzo Allen (302nd overall and No. 21 at his position). His offers include Alabama, Oklahoma, Auburn, Southern California and Michigan. He initially committed in the spring to Arizona State before reopening his recruitment Aug. 28.

A look at recruits: Here are the top-ranked football recruits for the 2023 class targeted by Clemson

Louisiana safety Jacoby Mathews had Clemson in his final six in the spring along with Florida, Texas, Southern California, Arizona State and LSU. Ranked 27th overall and second position-wise, he initially announced for LSU before decommitting in late July. Clemson seems to no longer be among his favorites.

The Tigers hold a commitment from one of their eight offers to defensive ends with Florida prospect Jihaad Campbell verbally in the fold as the ninth-best at his position and 82nd overall. It appears Clemson's lone hope among the four uncommitted edge rushers is with Missouri's DJ Wesolak (13th and 188th), who was at Dabo Swinney's Elite Retreat gathering in late July.

Clemson has zero commitments from 13 offers to defensive tackles, where seven of those intended targets remain without having announced a chosen school. Alabama prospect Khurtiss Perry announced Clemson in his final five last month along with Alabama, Auburn, Texas and Central Florida. He's ranked 11th position-wise and 69th overall.

Indiana product Caden Curry (12th at the position and 77th overall) also has Clemson among a top five that includes Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon and Indiana.

The biggest prize at tackle would be Tennessee prospect Walter Nolen, No. 1 at the position and second overall although he clearly has Texas A&M as his favorite followed by Tennessee. The Aggies also appear to be the leader for Florida's Shemar Stewart (third position-wise, eighth overall and No. 1 in his state) who has a Clemson offer.
