One twin killed, another hurt when ATV, car crash on Midlands road, SC officials say

One person was killed and her twin sister was among three other people who were hurt when an ATV was hit by a car, South Carolina officials said.

The two-vehicle collision happened at about 7:35 p.m. on Jan. 19, according to Sgt. Sonny Collins of South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A 2012 Yamaha Side-by-Side all terrain vehicle was stopped in a southbound lane on U.S. 15, near the intersection with Geddings Road, Collins said. That’s in Sumter County, about 11 miles south of downtown Sumter.

A 2001 Hyundai was heading south on U.S. 15 when it hit the ATV, according to Collins.

One of the four people on board the ATV was killed, and the others were taken to area hospitals, Collins said. Further information on their conditions was not available.

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said 23-year-old Kaylee Danielle Geddings was killed, the Sumter Item reported. Her twin sister, Haylee, was one of the people taken to hospitals in Sumter and Richland counties, Baker told the news outlet.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

No other injuries were reported.

Information if the occupants of the ATV, or the Hyundai, wore seat belts was not available.

There was no word about the cause of the crash, but it continues to be investigated by Highway Patrol.

A memorial service will be held for Kaylee Geddings at 4 p.m. on Thursday at the Stephens Funeral Home chapel in Manning, according to her obituary.

In addition to her twin sister, Kaylee Geddings is survived by three other siblings, a daughter, and her parents, among other relatives, the obituary said.
