One person killed in single-vehicle crash in Montgomery County Friday

A passenger in a single-vehicle crash was killed in Montgomery County Friday evening, according to the Illinois State Police.

Randall G. Branham, 59, of Witt was riding in the Dodge van. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Branham's identity was released by Montgomery County coroner Randy Leetham Sunday morning.

The wreck occurred on Illinois 16 approximately one quarter of a mile south of Fifth Street in Witt around 7:25 p.m. Friday.

Witt is about 55 miles southeast of Springfield.

The van left the road to the right, striking an embankment and a tree.

The driver of the van, Daniel Adams, 34, of Gillespie, was cited for driving under the influence (alcohol) and driving too fast for conditions, according to an ISP news release.

Adams was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
