GALESBURG — One might hear wood crack this weekend at Soangetaha Country Club.

It won't be a tree making the sound. Hopefully, anyway. A golf club shaft could though.

The Society of Hickory Golfers' Mid American Hickory Open takes place at Soangey on Saturday and Sunday. It's the fourth time the golf course has been the location for the tourney.

Around 40 golfers from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin — as well as Angus Rollo, who hails from Scotland — will hit the links in the 36-hole event, and they'll do so using pre-1935 equipment in a stroke play format.

Sunday also features an 18-hole four person super-ball event which is open to the public.
