One dog saved, one killed in Hazel Dell house fire

Jun. 21—One dog was rescued and one died in a house fire in Hazel Dell that was reported about 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to Clark County Fire District 6.

Firefighters arrived minutes after the blaze was reported to see flames coming from the home in the 600 Block of Northwest 94th Street.

Three residents had already escaped the home but the two dogs were trapped inside, Clark County Fire District 6 said in an early morning statement. Firefighters found the dogs and were able to save one. With the assistance of a Clark County Sheriff's deputy, the dog was rushed to an emergency vet. The second dog died at the scene.

The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire and will determine the cause as well as a damage estimate. The house is not habitable; residents say they are making their own lodging plans.

It took about half an hour for Clark County Fire District 6 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Fire personnel remained on scene shortly before 8 a.m., however.
