One dead in Eddy County Sheriff's Office officer involved shooting in Carlsbad

New Mexico State Police said one person was killed in an officer involved shooting Thursday in Carlsbad.

According to State Police, Eddy County Sheriff's deputies were involved. No Eddy County Sheriff's personnel was injured.

Eddy County deputies responded to the 4000 block of Jones Street in Happy Valley to a possible domestic dispute around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, read emergency dispatch logs from the Regional Emergency Dispatch Authority (REDA).

The name of the deceased was not released as of Friday morning and State Police Spokesperson Officer Dusty Francisco did not have a definite timeline on when the investigation would conclude.

Eddy County Sheriff Mark Cage said the crime scene was secured after the shooting and there was no threat to public safety.

The Sheriff's Office did not release the name of the officers involved in the shooting.
