Omicron might be peaking in Tennessee

Hello, everyone. Welcome to Coronavirus Watch. This is reporter Adam Friedman.

It appears the wave of COVID-19 infections caused by the omicron variant is peaking.

The health department reported infections increased to a record high 17,000 new cases per day over the last week, but it's only a 5% increase compared to the previous week.

It's the smallest increase since the start of the current surge.

The numbers align with expectations from health experts who predicted omicron variant COVID-19 cases would peak around mid-February.
