Three things to know about OSU vs. Iowa State

OSU guard Bryce Williams is doubtful for the game after suffering an ankle injury a week ago against TCU. He did not play in Saturday’s loss to TCU. Cowboys coach Mike Boynton said Monday that Williams had not practiced but is improving.

The Cowboys and Cyclones have two of the better defenses in the country, with Iowa State ranked No. 6 in KenPom.com’s adjusted defensive efficiency rankings, one spot ahead of OSU. Iowa State allows just 59.9 points per game and is allowing opponents to shoot 40.8%. OSU allows 65 points per game and 39.1% shooting.

OSU has won four straight against the Cyclones, who have remade themselves under first-year coach T.J. Otzelberger. That includes bringing in Minnesota transfer Gabe Kalscheur, who has been a problem for the Cowboys. In two previous matchups, he’s averaged 24 points and made 10 of 15 3-pointers. He also had a career-high 34 points against OSU in a win at Tulsa’s BOK Center in December 2019.
