Oklahoma State co-leads men's golf regional in Columbus, while OU falls to second in Norman

Cowboys tied for first at golf regional

Oklahoma State is tied for first place after 36 holes at the NCAA Men's Golf Regional in Columbus, Ohio. The Cowboys shot 281 as a team on Tuesday, which puts them at 7-under 561 overall on Ohio State University's Scarlet Course.

But the big surprise was Georgia Tech. The Yellowjackets vaulted from a fifth-place tie after Monday's round to a first-place tie with OSU. The Jackets as a team were 10-under par on Tuesday.

OSU and Georgia Tech are blowing away the rest of the field, too. The host Buckeyes were in third place, 13 shot behind the co-leaders. Clemson was fourth, 14 strokes behind the Cowboys and Yellowjackets.

Oklahoma State is holding its own in race for medalist. Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra leads the field with 4-under-par 138 after two rounds. Georgia Tech is making is presence known as Ross Steelman is one shot back of Lopez-Chacarra and Benjamin Reuter is two behind.

The Cowboys' Aman Gupta and Jonas Baumgartner remain in the chase. They are just three strokes of the leader's pace.

The tournament ends on Wednesday.

Auburn passes OU for regional lead

Auburn blew past opening-round leader Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon and topped the standings after 36 holes at the NCAA Men's Golf Regional Tournament at the Jimmie Austin OU Course.

The Tigers, who started Tuesday's round in a third-place tie and three shots behind OU, was 12-under for the second round. Auburn goes into Wednesday's final 18 holes with a six-stroke lead (556-562) over the top-seeded Sooners.

Texas (-8), Ole Miss (-8) and Utah (-3) round out the top five.

Texas' Travis Vick moved atop the individual leaderboard with a 10-under-par 134. He's shot back-to-back 67s. Vick is one shot ahead of previous leader J.M. Butler of Auburn.

Drew Goodman is OU's top individual. Goodman dropped fro a third-place tie to a sixth-place tie at 4-under 140.

OSU women's basketball adds three players

The Oklahoma State women's basketball program has added three players, including a high school standout from Nottingham, England.

Cowgirls coach Jacie Hoyt has signed Praise Egharevba, a 6-foot-3 forward from Nottingham Academy. Egharevba averaged 11.3 point and 11.6 rebounds this past season. She had 10 double-doubles.

Also joining OSU is Makyra Tramble, a 5-10 forward from Southwestern Oklahoma State and Claire Chastain, a 6-foot guard from Texas-Arlington.

Tramble, who played high school ball at Shawnee, averaged 20.1 points, 5.2 assists and 7.1 rebounds for Southwestern. Chastain is a former Dale High standout who played the last four seasons at Texas-Arlington. She started 28 games this season and averaged 8.9 point and 4.7 rebounds.

OSU MEN'S BASKETBALL: John-Michael Wright, who led the Big South in scoring this past season, has transferred to OSU. Wright spent the last three seasons at High Point University in North Carolina. He started all 32 games for the Panthers, averaging 18.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Wright will be a senior this fall.

OSU SOCCER: Oklahoma State released its 2002 soccer schedule. The Cowgirls will play 10 home matches, including the Aug. 21 home opener against Missouri State. OSU will host OU on Aug. 28 and then visit Norman on Oct. 6. The Cowgirls finished with a 9-6-3 record last season.

NBA: The mother of Rajon Rondo's children has been granted an emergency protective order against the NBA player after he was accused of pulling a gun on his family on May 11 at their Louisville home.

As part of the order, Ashley Bachelor was granted temporary custody of her two children with Rondo, and he must remain at least 500 feet away. In addition, Rondo was ordered to surrender any firearms in his possession to the Jefferson County sheriff.

NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner was robbed at gunpoint Monday night in a parking lot. The right winger's car was stolen just 48 hours after the Maple Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs.

BASEBALL: The Los Angeles Dodgers have promoted utilityman Michael Busch from Double-A Tulsa to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder hit .306 wth 11 homers and 29 RBI this season for the Drillers. ...

Houston Astros right-hander Jake Odorizzi collapsed with a leg injury while running to cover first base in the fifth inning Monday night against the Boston Red Sox and was taken off the Fenway Park field on a stretcher. The team said he had “left lower leg discomfort,” and manager Dusty Baker said Odorizzi would get an MRI.
