Oklahoma Sooners advance to regional final after 3-2 win, face Aggies again on Sunday

It came down to the seventh inning, but the Sooners held on for another win and advanced to the Norman regional final after defeating Texas A&M 3-2.

The Sooners will face the Aggies again in the finale on Sunday after the Aggies won the loser’s bracket, coming back to beat the Minnesota Golden Gophers 10-7 on Saturday evening.

Hope Trautwein pitched a beauty against the Aggies, throwing a complete game. The Aggies only managed three hits all game. Trautwein didn’t walk a single batter, so the Aggies had limited baserunners to work with. However, the Aggies did some damage in the top of the sixth.

Haley Lee hit a two-run homer to bring the Aggies within one, but Trautwein was able to limit the damage. She now sits at 17-1 on the season. Lee’s homer was the second Trautwein has given up all season.

On offense, the Sooners got ahead early in the bottom of the first on a home run courtesy of Jayda Coleman. A double from Grace Lyons brought in Jocelyn Alo to make it 2-0.

Coleman provided what would be the winning run for the Sooners in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Jana Johns led off the inning with a walk, she moved to second on a Riley Boone fielder’s choice. With two outs, Coleman came through in the clutch, driving Johns home with an RBI double.

The Sooners look primed to advance to the super regionals of the NCAA tournament if they can beat the Aggies one more time in the Norman regional on Sunday.
