Ohio State’s quarterback room is crowded, at least for now, but that didn’t deter the Buckeyes from adding a commitment to that room Wednesday night.

Devin Brown, a four-star prospect from Corner Canyon High School in Draper, Utah, announced he will join Ohio State’s 2022 recruiting class. In 2020, he pledged to attend Southern California but decommitted on Nov. 24 after coach Clay Helton was fired.

“Betting on myself… ALL IN,” he said in a Tweet.

The 6-foot-3, 189-pound Brown is rated the No. 5 quarterback and No. 52 prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings.

According to MaxPreps, Brown threw for a Utah state-record 4,881 yards and threw 57 touchdown passes in leading Corner Canyon to the Class 6A state finals this year. He also ran for 430 yards and eight touchdowns.

"He’s a guy who’s got all the talent you're looking for at the position," said 247Sports director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong, "A strong arm, accurate passer who can make things happen to all levels of the field.

"In addition, he's got a moxie, a confidence, to him. He embraces the stage that Ohio State plays on and the competition that's in the quarterback room. He’s got the mentality that you need to play at a place like Ohio State where there's so much scrutiny."

Corner Canyon has a history of producing top quarterbacks. Zach Wilson, a 2018 graduate, was the No. 2 pick of the 2021 NFL draft by the New York Jets.

Ohio State decided to pursue another quarterback during this recruiting cycle after Quinn Ewers, who was the top-rated overall prospect in the 2022 class, decided to enroll this summer at Ohio State. Ewers said he did so largely to take advantage of name, image and likeness opportunities. Ewers played in only one game, in mop-up duty in the 56-7 victory over Michigan State.

Brown's stock rose after a strong performance at the Elite 11 competition earlier this year, which included Ewers.

"He was arguably the best guy there," Wiltfong said of Brown.

Redshirt freshman C.J. Stroud had a superb first season as the Buckeyes’ starter, earning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year honors. Kyle McCord, a five-star prospect last year, started the Akron game when Stroud rested his injured shoulder.

Brown is the 17th commitment for Ohio State's 2022 class, which is ranked fourth nationally by 247Sports.
