Ohio State coaches Kevin McGuff, Steve Rohlik and Nick Myers to get contract extensions

Ohio State women’s basketball coach Kevin McGuff is getting a pay raise after leading the program to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2017.

McGuff will earn $1.05 million in annual compensation, including a base salary worth $675,000, as part of a new four-year contract.

The deal takes effect on July 1 and runs through the 2025-26 season. It remains subject to approval from the university’s board of trustees this week.

"I'm extremely honored and happy to continue to have the opportunity to lead this program," McGuff said. "I love the kids we have on our team right now, and I think our best days are certainly ahead of us."

Ohio State went 25-7 last season and advanced to the regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament before losing to Texas.

"Last season was really important because that's the level I want this program to be at, and it was great to be back at it," McGuff said. "We have some really good kids right now. The chemistry was as good as it's ever been last year. These kids just seemed to really like each other and liked playing together and they like spending time together off the court. I think that was a big part of our success."

Last year's NCAA tournament appearance was the first since the 2017-18 season. The 2020 tournament was canceled because of COVID-19, and the Buckeyes self-imposed a postseason ban because of NCAA violations in 2021.

McGuff has been at the helm of the program since 2013. His career record at Ohio State is 193-91

Men's lacrosse coach Nick Myers was also set to pick up a five-year contract extension, and men's hockey coach Steve Rohlik was to get a two-year contract extension.

The men's lacrosse team had reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since reaching the national championship game in 2017.

McGuff and Rohlik thanked the OSU administration for its support.

"It's an unbelievable athletic department," Rohlik said. "It wouldn't be possible without, certainly the people I'm around here — the coaches and support staff — and you can't do it without great players.

"The student-athletes we're getting and what they're doing on the ice and in the classroom has been outstanding. There are so many great people that are part of this hockey program. It's certainly not just me."

Rohlik has a 162-137-36 record in nine seasons at OSU. The Buckeyes were 22-13-2 last season and narrowly missed a bid for the NCAA tournament.

"It's fun to come to work every day," he said, "and when you're around that, you want to continue to build on that."
