Officials admit Sixers should’ve been allowed a challenge in loss

As the Philadelphia 76ers were attempting a rally in Memphis on Friday, there was a play in the fourth quarter where Grizzlies star Ja Morant was blocked and the ball went out of bounds. The call was in favor of the Grizzlies, but the Sixers wanted to challenge.

Coach Doc Rivers was looking to challenge the call, but the officials denied his attempt. Joel Embiid jumped in as well to try and get the challenge going, but the officials were not having it.

Afterward, crew chief Sean Wright spoke with a pool reporter and he admitted that the Sixers should have been rewarded a challenge:

“Looking back at it ,he [Doc Rivers] should have been allowed to challenge.”

QUESTION: “Was there anything during the game that you saw that led to you not allowing the challenge in that sequence?”

WRIGHT: “Not at all. Just looking back at it as we looked at it postgame, he should have been allowed to challenge.”

In the end, the Sixers ended up falling to the Grizzlies 117-109 as they dropped the first two games of this 3-game road trip. However, help appears to be on the way in the form of James Harden who looks slated to make his return on Monday against the Houston Rockets.
