OC kicks off Black History Month

Feb. 7—The Odessa College Black History Month Kick Off event at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Saulsbury Campus Center foyer features Shelia Stevenson, currently an adjunct professor for the Department of Liberal Art/Education at Odessa College. Overall, her educational career spanned 35 years gaining her experience at Ector High School, Permian High School, and Bowie Middle School.

A native Odessan and a graduate of Ector High School, Stevenson continued her education and completed her bachelor's degree in Speech Communications with a minor in English/Spanish at the University of Texas at Arlington. Later, she completed her master's degree in Education from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.

February will be filled with a variety of lunch and learn sessions, panel discussions and activities for Odessa College students, staff, and the general public as OC kicks off a month of reflection and celebration of Black History.

Scheduled events during the month include on February 9, a film screening of the movie "Till" in the Jack Rodgers Auditorium; on February 14, Frederic Douglas Day: A Discussion and Birthday Party for the Most Photographed Man of His Century; and on February 20, the annual Praise and Fashion Show in the Zant Room of the Saulsbury Campus Center.
