Now hiring: Amtrak to fill 4,000 new job positions across the board

Amtrak wants to hire 4,000 workers to fill new roles across the board for positions in areas like project management, finance, technology, electrical, customer service and onboarding services.

The company said last week that Amtrak will be hosting career fairs and hiring events across the country to talk more about these positions.

The events will take place in Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, New York, Washington, Chicago, Oakland, Philadelphia, Miami and Wilmington, Delaware. The company also has over 54 other hiring events that will take place throughout 2023 with a handful of virtual events as well.

“As we connect communities, economies and families, Amtrak employees have a significant opportunity to engage in truly meaningful project work,” Qiana Spain, executive vice president and chief human resource officer at Amtrak, said in a statement. “As our recruitment teams pave the way to secure top talent across Amtrak, I am proud to lead such remarkable hiring efforts.”

Onboard service craft pay starts at $21 per hour. Mechanical workers and electricians have a starting pay at $34.07 per hour, along with hiring bonuses and relocation packages for those hired on for critical positions.

Amtrak also plans to bring on paid interns and co-ops for college students that have the possibility to turn into full-time roles, with early career programs in finance, HR, IT, marketing safety and engineering.

Olivia Irvin, the senior public relations manager for Amtrak, said job candidates should bring three copies of a resume to the hiring events.

Amtrak has plans to continue expanding across the country after receiving significant investment from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Congress just passed.

The Department of Transportation granted over $233 million to 11 different projects in eight states, including Amtrak to "improve and modernize vital intercity passenger rail service," according to a news release on the department's website.

The granted money will go toward improving Amtrak infrastructure and access to rail stops in places such as New York, California, Michigan and New Jersey.
