Northeast Pennsylvania adds another 221 COVID-19 cases, 12 deaths

Mar. 4—Northeast Pennsylvania recorded another 221 COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths on Wednesday, according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

An additional 2,577 positive cases statewide brought Pennsylvania's total to 938,411. The department reported 69 new deaths statewide, for a total of 24,169 since the pandemic began.

After several days with only one death reported in Northeast Pennsylvania, the seven-county region had not seen a one-day total as high as 12 since Feb. 23.

Statewide, the number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus continues to decline since the peak on Dec. 25. As of Wednesday, there are 1,670 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, including 354 patients in the intensive care unit.

Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties have seen 57,419 cases and 1,636 deaths in the last year.

By county:

Lackawanna added 63 cases for 14,072 total, including 2,133 probable. Three new deaths raised the county total to 423.

Luzerne added 60 cases for 25,033 total, including 1,833 probable, and added five new deaths, for a total of 735.

Monroe added 51 cases for 9,783 total, including 249 probable, and added three new deaths, for a total of 269.

Pike added 33 cases for 2,568 total, including 220 probable, and remained at 48 deaths.

Susquehanna added six cases for 1,717 total, including 199 probable, and remained at 53 deaths.

Wayne added seven cases for 3,075 total, including 265 probable, and remained at 66 deaths.

Wyoming added one case for 1,171 total, including 195 probable, and added one death, for a total of 42.
