North Schuylkill board approves STC budget for next year

Feb. 24—FOUNTAIN SPRINGS — The North Schuylkill school board approved the Schuylkill Technology Center budget for the next school year at its recent meeting.

The board met on Feb. 17 for its regular monthly meeting, which was held in-person, although some members attended via conference call. Vice President Roy Green chaired the meeting because President Charles Hepler attended by phone.

The members voted unanimously for the STC budget.

North Schuylkill's share of the secondary budget for 2021-22 is $744,499, an increase from the district's 2020-21 share of $709,131.

In other business, the board approved appointing member Michael Kiehl as district representative on the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 and Schuylkill Technology Center boards of directors from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2024.

The school board also approved a request from Schuylkill United Way to use Ghosh Orthodontics Field at Spartan Stadium for a "High School Football Challenge" on June 22 and 24 from 2 to 5 p.m.

The decision may be reversed closer to the event date if pandemic conditions are not conducive to holding the event.

The decision will be based on collaboration of the Physical Facilities and Extracurricular Programs committees.

The school board acted on the following agenda items:

—Approved an administrative internship for English teacher Heather Schlein with Secondary Principal Ken Roseberry from February to May.

—Accepted the notice of retirement for elementary teacher Brian Wolfe, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

—Approved the 2020-21 school calendar revisions necessitated by weather cancellations.

—Approved the cardiac screening and return to play guidelines for athletes following COVID-19.

The board approved the following appointments and salaries in extracurricular programs for the 2021 season:

—Head football coach — Wally Hall at $6,100.

—Assistant softball coaches — Luke Lapotsky at $2,730; Jamie Palmerio at $2,330; Jack Marlow at $2,130; Johnna Cappel at $2,339; and Jack Flynn at $1,890.

—Volunteer softball coaches — Dana Achenbach and Cassie Lapotsky.

—Assistant baseball coaches — Chris Glessner at $2,850; Steve Ennis at $2,830; and Kieran Connors at $3,450.

—Volunteer baseball coaches — John Chuma, Robert Yesalusky Derek Dumboski, Austin Hornberger, Scott Frew, Jaden Leiby and Heath Leiby.

—Assistant track coaches — Bob Moyer at $6,688; Tony Chatkiewicz at $4,200; Corey Mentzer at $2,975; Michael Russell at $2,075; and Jordann Bridy and Brooke Ennis at $1,675 each.

—Volunteer track coaches — Brett Budwash and Lindsay Lord.

—Head golf coach — John Cuthie at $4,150.

—Head cross country coach — Jordann Bridy at $2,700.

—Varsity football cheerleading adviser — Leah Briggs at $3,450.

—Junior high football cheerleading adviser — Ellen Geidner at $1,550.

—Head girls soccer coach — Madyson Riegel at $2,715.

—Head volleyball coach — Tyler Mutchler at $2,575.
