GRAYLING — There have been some tough stretches on the basketball court this season for the North Central Michigan College men’s basketball team.

But, this past week hasn’t been one of them.

The Timberwolves picked up a second straight victory earlier this week with a 67-58 final over Kirtland Community College in Grayling.

They also earned an 80-74 win over Delta College last Saturday, which ended a six-game losing streak.

The wins moved North Central to 5-10 overall on the season and they came as the first two conference victories for the Timberwolves, moving them to 2-2 within the league.

Both games came behind some better balance on the scoresheet from the Timberwolves, as 10 different players scored against Delta and eight scored against Kirtland.

Against Kirtland, North Central controlled a 32-27 lead at the break and came led by Ashawn Burbridge’s 16 points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Jackson Raymond, formally of East Jordan, scored 13 points on 3 of 4 shooting from beyond the arc, while Josh Adim scored 11 points. Skylar Crudup also had nine points, eight rebounds and three assists and Dai’Montae Rembert and JJ Weber each scored six.

In the win over Delta College at home last Saturday, the Timberwolves overcame a 9-0 run from the Pioneers in the second half and played in a back and forth contest up until the end.

Crudup led with 27 points, 13 rebonds, seven assists and six steals and Burbridge had 17 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Rembert added six points and five boards, Ronta Moore of Petoskey had six points, while Weber, Bryon Bishop, Adim and Julius Smith all had five points each.

The North Central women dropped both games this past week, falling 63-44 against Delta and 63-48 against Kirtland.

Former Petoskey player Sydney Mann did have a strong performance against the Pioneers, posting 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Both North Central teams will next be home against Muskegon Community College on Saturday, Jan. 28, with the women at 1 p.m. and men following at 3 p.m.

North Central will also play at home on Wednesday, Feb. 1 vs. Alpena CC, with the game coming as a Hunger Games food drive night. Entry into the games will be free with a canned food donation.

All funds and items donated will support North Central’s Campus Cupboard, a year-round, on-campus food pantry available to NCMC students.
