Week 6 Gastonia, Shelby area high school football roundup: Forestview downs rival Ashbrook

Plamedi Warsinsky’s 45-yard field goal proved to be the difference as Forestview nudged past rival Ashbrook in high school football on Friday night. Christian Holland rushed for two touchdowns, while Jaxson Hill connected with Drizton Dunlap on another for the Jaguars. Ashbrook’s Carmelo Bess rushed for a touchdown and caught a TD pass.

Forestview (3-2, 2-0 Big South 3A) has now won three in a row. Ashbrook dropped to 1-4 (0-2).

Here are other Week 6 recaps from games featuring teams from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties.

Bessemer City 60, Highland Tech 14: Jameer Holmes matched a school record with five touchdown passes, leading the Yellow Jackets to a second straight win. Three of his touchdown passes went to Amari Barnette, with Jvontre Duff catching the other two. Kameron Rice-Collins had a kick return for a touchdown as well as an interception returned for a TD, while Randall Pettus also returned an interception for a touchdown.

Bessemer City is 2-4, 2-0 in Southern Piedmont 1A/2A. Highland Tech is 0-6 (0-2).

Community School of Davidson 56, Mountain Island Charter 6: Mountain Island Charter falls to 2-2, 0-2 in Catawba Shores 1A/2A play.

Crest 56, Stuart Cramer 21: Ny’Tavious Huskey completed 20-of-24 passes for 242 yards and three touchdowns in a rout of Stuart Cramer. Javarius Green (nine catches, 103 yards), Malachi Addison (four catches, 73 yards) and TiJay Borders each caught TD passes from Huskey, who also rushed for 43 yards and another TD. Aiden Carson of Crest rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Crest is 4-1, 2-0 in Big South 3A, while Stuart Cramer drops to 2-3 (0-2).

East Gaston 38, Cherryville 0: East Gaston improved to 3-2, 1-0 in Southern Piedmont 1A/2A play. Cherryville fell to its third straight loss (2-4, 0-2).

East Lincoln 28, Statesville 7: Christopher Daley II rushed for two touchdowns, while Tyler Mizzell connected with Markel Clark for another in the Mustangs’ win. Jarvis Stevens blocked a punt that was returned by Keandre Walker for a TD. Stevens also had an interception. East Lincoln is 5-0 (2-0 Western Foothills 3A), while Statesville is 2-3 (1-1).

Hickory 29, North Lincoln 22: North Lincoln falls to 0-5, 0-2 in Western Foothills 3A.

Kings Mountain 56, North Gaston 0: Caleb Holland returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, sparking a scoring spree for the undefeated Mountaineers (5-0, 2-0 Big South 3A). Rushing for Kings Mountain touchdowns include Teddy Jeffries, Robert Kendrick, AJ. Richardson, Zay Smith and Micah Ward. Ja’Qualyn Sanders caught a touchdown pass, with Xzorion Lenair returning a punt for a TD.

North Gaston fell to 0-5 (0-2).

Lincolnton 22, Newton-Conover 21: Lincolnton scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to rally for a much-needed win. The Wolves improve to 2-3, 1-1 in Catawba Valley 2A.

Maiden 27, West Lincoln 17: After falling behind in the third, Maiden rallied for the game’s last 14 points to deal West Lincoln (4-1, 1-1 Catawba Valley 2A) its first loss of the season. Avery finished with 195 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, with Jaylin Winnex also scoring a TD to go with 82 yards on 11 carries.

Shelby 55, Thomas Jefferson 6: After Thomas Jefferson scored the game’s first points, Shelby scored the final 55 on its way to victory. Quarterback Daylin completed four touchdown passes and rushed for another, while Izay Bridges caught two TD passes and rushed for another.JaKeith Hamilton also caught a touchdown pass, while Bricen Kee and Jalen Tate each rushed for TDs.
