Nordonia, Walsh, Hoban, Copley, Green earn boys basketball wins
Nordonia 52, North Royalton 51
Nordonia rallied from a 44-32 deficit after three quarters to win at home in a Suburban League National Conference game Friday night. The Knights (7-5, 4-3) swept the season series against the Bears (6-9, 3-4).
Landon Naylor spurred the comeback by scoring nine of his game-high 17 points in the final quarter. Gabe Ingram tied the score at 51-51 for the Knights with a 3-pointer with 21 seconds left.
Bears forward Justin Penkalski (16 points) had a chance to win the game, but his jumper went off the rim. Nordonia's Partrick Williams rebounded the ball and was fouled with 0.9 seconds left.
Williams hit the front end of a one-and-one — his lone point of the game — to provide the winning margin.
Walsh Jesuit 81, Chardon Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin 36
Rico Pickett scored 12 of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter and Walsh (10-2, 5-0 Crown Conference) shot 15-for-22 in the first eight minutes to top NDCL (2-10, 1-3).
“It was important to play well and speed a team up,” Pickett said. “Recently, we haven’t played our best. Speeding them up was all we needed.”
Max Matta had 14 points and seven rebounds for Walsh, Sean Spicer scored 12 points and Tyler Halligan chipped in eight points. Warriors starters only played a quarter and half in this running clock game. Fourteen players scored for Walsh.
Archbishop Hoban 58, Cleveland Central Catholic 44
Jonas Nichols scored 18 points and Andrew Griffith contributed 12 points to lead the visiting Knights (9-5) past the Ironmen (2-7).
Hoban led 19-3 at the end of the first quarter. Knights guard Logan Vowles finished with nine points and Andrew Hardman and Jayvian Crable added seven points apiece.
Highland 62, Tallmadge 57 (OT)
Aaron Filips (19 points), Hunter Winston (17) and Adam Coss (12) led the Hornets (7-6, 5-2 Suburban League American Conference). Collin Dixon scored 24 points for the Blue Devils (7-4, 4-3) and Aaron Gergely chipped in 10.
Copley 59, Aurora 39
The hosts outscored Aurora 41-24 in the second half. Senior Caleb Laurich scored 22 points for Copley (10-2, 7-1 Suburban League American Conference). Copley's Trent Wininger contributed 12 points, Glen Parker and Christian Hood scored eight points apiece and Preston Taylor had seven points.
Ellet 54, North 38
Chase Merring scored 19 points and Jackson Taylor scored 16 points to lead visiting Ellet (6-10, 4-4 City Series). North's Lamar Dampier scored 28 points.
Kenmore-Garfield 55, Firestone 36
McNeal Thompson IV scored 27 points to lead the visiting Golden Rams (5-7, 4-3) to a win. Marquis Vaughn (12 points), Ronnie Hightower (seven points) and Lonnie Dampier (seven points) also played key roles for K-G.
Manchester 54, Fairless 41
Daniel Sensius and Ben Noirot scored 13 points apiece for host Manchester (10-7, 3-5 PAC-7).
Streetsboro 46, Norton 41
Senior Bryce Vecchio scored 20 points to lead the visiting Rockets (9-2, 8-1 MAC).
Mogadore 66, Rootstown 58
Mason Murphy led all scorers with 20 points for visiting Mogadore (9-4, 4-2 PTC). Mogadore's Layne Miller (17 points), Nick Coffman (13) and Aidin Hiney (10) also played key roles.
Rootstown's leaders were Dom Shipp (18 points and Nick Wancik (15 points).
Green 36, North Canton Hoover 31
Brady Rollyson scored 10 points and Zack Oddo had seven points for the host Bulldogs (13-2, 5-2 Federal League). Eli Barker paced the Vikings (10-4, 4-4) with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Hoover's Tanner Ware added 10 points.
Lake 52, Jackson 37
Chance Casenhiser scored 23 points and Camden Horning chipped in 13 points to lead host Lake (10-4, 5-3 FL). Kevin James scored 17 points for Jackson (8-6, 5-3).
Northwest 63, Tuslaw 58
Chase Badger scored 22 points and Alex Goddard finished with 20 for visiting Northwest (7-6, 7-2 PAC-7). Ty Pratt scored 29 points for Tuslaw (8-7, 6-2).
Brunswick 81, Euclid 69
The host Blue Devils (11-4, 3-3) were led by Brayden Hamilton (22 points) and Thomas Krizsa (19) in this Greater Cleveland Conference game.
Marlington 61, Louisville 42
Connor Evanich matched his points with rebounds with 15 each and Casey Miller hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points as the Dukes improved to 12-2 with a home win.
