Kentucky native Noah Thompson is one step away from becoming the next "American Idol" but he'll need your help to win the title.
The 20-year-old constructor worker from Lawrence County has one final hurdle to cross into stardom — Sunday's live grand finale, which airs at 8 p.m. on ABC.
No matter how perfectly Thompson performs this weekend, viewers' votes will determine whether or not he comes back home to the Bluegrass State a winner.
If you've never voted during an "American Idol" show, here's what you need to know.
How do you vote for American Idol contestants ?
ABC has set up three ways to make your voice heard. You can vote online at AmericanIdol.com/vote, in the American Idol app or via text.
You must be at least 16 years old and located in the U.S., Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands to vote online or in the American Idol app.
For text message voting, meanwhile, simply text the number of the contestant you would like to vote for to “21523." The number for each contestant will be listed on screen when voting begins.
When can you vote?
Voting for "American Idol" takes place during Sunday's coast-to-coast live show and closes during the final commercial break.
How many times can you vote?
Each week, you can submit up to ten votes for each remaining contestant per voting method (online at AmericanIdol.com/vote, in the American Idol app, and via text message voting.)
Let's say you want to vote for Noah Thompson. You're able to submit up to 10 votes for the Kentucky native through online voting, 10 votes through the American Idol app and another 10 votes for the contestant via text message, for a total of up to 30 votes for Thompson.
What if you want to vote online or in the app?
To vote at AmericanIdol.com/vote or in the American Idol app, an ABC account is a must.
The set-up process is pretty easy. You can sign up for an ABC account using your email address. To vote via the American Idol app, meanwhile, you must download and install the app to your smart phone or compatible device.
No matter how Sunday's finale ends, Thompson is already flying high. He took a break from his preparation for his final appearance on "American Idol" on Tuesday to return to his hometown of Louisa, Kentucky, for a grand celebration.
Thompson waved from a convertible to excited fans who lined the streets during a parade in his honor. The Eastern Kentucky town also named a road after Thompson and a road sign was erected with his name on the Country Music Highway.
To conclude the festivities, the "American Idol" contestant took part in a free concert at the Lawrence County High School football stadium. The show featured several song performances in addition to two star-studded duets with Kameron Marlowe and Sundy Best’s Nick Jamerson
Thompson’s homecoming was filmed by "American Idol" producers for the segment that will appear in this Sunday’s episode. Thompson will take part in a duet with music legend Melissa Etheridge, perform his debut single, “One Day Tonight,” and cover a Bruce Springsteen hit.
The three-hour season finale of "American Idol" airs at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.
