No injuries in Hempfield garage fire

Dec. 6—No one was injured early Tuesday morning as crews from Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department extinguished a garage fire endangering a nearby home on Trouttown Road in Hempfield.

Firefighers were called to the 100 block of Trouttown Road shortly before 12:30 a.m. for a report of a one-story garage on fire.

The garage was unoccupied, according to Youngwood Fire Chief Lloyd Crago, and crews spent two hours putting the fire out.

"The woman living there, and her grandkids and pets all got out of the house safely," Crago said. "The garage was a total loss, and the house got some heat damage to the exterior, but the fire never got inside."

Crago said because of smoke and the general conditions following the fire, the local chapter of the Red Cross assisted residents in finding a place to stay Monday night.
