No. 10 Kentucky pulls away from early deficit to rout North Florida 86-52; UNF women top Charleston

The University of North Florida led 10th-ranked Kentucky by a basket with 8:29 left in the first half but the Wildcats went on a 23-7 run over the rest of the half and pulled away further in the second half to win 86-52 on Friday in front of 19,350 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.

UNF (1-6) defended well on the perimeter for most of the first half, as the Wildcat missed their first 10 3-point attempts and went 1 for 12 from beyond the arc before intermission.

The Ospreys went up 16-14 on Jonathan Aybar's dunk. Jose Placer and Jadyn Parker scored four points each during that span.

But UK (5-1) got six points each from Damion Collins and Sahvir Wheeler during their run before halftime and took a 37-23 lead.

The Osprey stayed within striking distance early in the second half and Carter Hendricksen hit a 3-pointer with 17:10 remaining to cut UK's lead to 41-28.

Kentucky then went on another run, scoring 13 of the next 15 points.

Jadyn Parker led UNF with 10 points and Hendricksen had eight points and five rebounds. It was the first game this season where Hendricksen failed to score in double figures.

Placer had a career-high 10 rebounds.

UNF had 21 turnovers and the Wildcats out-rebounded the Ospreys 50-33.

The Ospreys play at Florida International on Sunday at noon and return home on Thursday at 7 p.m. to play host to Edward Waters.

UNF 86, College of Charleston 76

Rhetta Moore hit a pair of 3-point shots with less than two minutes to play and Emma Broermann had 17 points on 8 of 9 shooting to lead the Ospreys women’s team over the Cougars at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday.

UNF (5-2) led by as many as 19 points early in the fourth quarter, 69-60, before the Cougars (3-2) nibbled away and cut the margin to 78-71 with 2:24 left.

Moore then hit from the outside, Ally Knights made a pair of free throws and Moore added another 3-pointer during an 8-2 run.

Moore had 15 points and seven assists, Tatiana Thompson and Nubia Benedith had 14 points each off the bench and Jazz Bond had 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Broermann added 11 rebounds.

Presbyterian 62, Jacksonville 54

Nyah Willis scored eight points in the fourth quarter to help the Blue Hose pull away from a 47-47 tie and beat the Dolphins at Swisher Gym on Saturday.

JU (2-2) led 33-29 at halftime but scored only seven points in the final quarter, shooting 3 of 14 with five turnovers.

Deshari Graham led the Dolphins with 16 points. Jade Compton had 21 for Presbyterian (3-3) and Willis had 15.
