No. 1 Jefferson tops Watertown girls in OT and other Tuesday hoops

The Watertown Civic Arena is rockin' again.

Four days after Watertown High School's boys basketball team got its biggest win of the season by beating Sioux Falls Washington on a last-second 3-pointer by Dylon Rawdon, the Watertown girls nearly posted an even bigger win in a non-conference game against top-rated Sioux Falls Jefferson.

In the end, Jefferson (13-2) survived two potential game-winning shots by Watertown (7-8) in the closing seconds of regulation and used an 11-2 run in overtime to prevail 49-40.

Jefferson's Aliyah McGovern-Harrington opened the extra period with a field-goal and two 3-pointers to help the Cavaliers survive. She finished with 16 points. Cierra Watkins added 11 and Kassidy Larsen 10.

Watertown's only points in overtime came on Miranda Falconer's field goal with 19 seconds left. Jaida Young finished with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists and Maddy Rohde 11 points for the Arrows. Both players fouled out in overtime. Falconer contributed eight points and Emery Thury four points and five rebounds.

Jefferson shot 34 percent (17 of 50) and struggled throughout, setting for 3-pointers against Watertown's zone defense. The Cavaliers made only six of 24 attempts from beyond the arc.

Watertown shot 44 percent (16 of 36) from the field and also collected 32 rebounds.

The game was close from start to finish. The Arrows led 11-10 after one quarter and the teams ended up tied 25-25 at halftime, 32-32 after three quarters and 38-38 at the end of regulation.

The Arrows visit Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Friday at 7 p.m.

Other Girls Basketball

Aberdeen Central 55, Mitchell 48: The Golden Eagles (5-7) won the Eastern South Dakota Conference game with 15 points from Taryn Hermansen and 11 apiece from Taryn Hettich and Lauryn Burckhard.

Sawyer Stoebner (16 points and 11 rebounds) and Lauren Van Overschelde (16 points) paced the 8-7 Kernels.

Aberdeen Central hosts Huron on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Estelline-Hendricks 60, Waubay-Summit 57 (OT): Kenzy Beare poured in 24 points and Sadie Johnson added 16, Claire Dagel 10 and Brooke Johnson eight for Estelline-Hendricks (7-10). Waubay-Summit (8-9) got 17 points from Eva Benike, 15 from Faith Larson and 10 from Kailee Berger.

Aberdeen Roncalli 73, Miller 67 (2 OTs): Roncalli (8-8) prevailed behind Camryn Bain's 28 points. Ava Hanson contributed 15, McKenna O'Keefe 12, Claire Crawford nine and Maddie Huber seven. Miller (12-4) received 25 points from Tyra Gates, 16 from Morgan Kolda and 15 from Jaden Werdel.

Clark-Willow Lake 73, Waverly-South Shore 19: The Cyclones (6-10) rolled to victory by getting 19 points from Tehya Vig, 14 from Brynn Roehrich, 11 from Musonda Kabwe, 1-0 from Alicia Vig and eight from Kayla Jordan. Carlee Mushitz paced the Coyotes (0-16) with 12 points.

Flandreau 64, De Smet 39: Claire Sheppard produced 23 points, five rebounds and four steals; Lizzie Pavlis 21 points and four assists; and Lily Klein 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists in the Lake Central Conference win. Hazel Luethmers and Jada Burke led the Bulldogs (6-11) with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Florence-Henry 43, Castlewood 32: Trinity Watson notched 17 points; Haley Hlavacek 12 points, six rebounds and four steals; Caylin Kelly seven points and seven rebounds; and Taylor Watson six rebounds for the 14-1 Falcons. Maddie Horn scored 18 points and Mackenzie Everson nine for Castlewood (11-6).

Redfield 45, Warner 33: Katie Rozell's double-double (11 points, 13 rebounds helped the Pheasants improve to 7-10. Camryn Rohlfs contributed 13 points and five assists, Ellie Evans 11 points, Gracie Fast eight rebounds and Ashlyn Clausen seven points. Kamryn Anderson (13 points, six rebounds), Kiah Koch (nine points) and Ava Nilsson (six points, five rebounds) sparked the 13-5 Monarchs.

Sisseton 61, Milbank 42: Krista Langager scored 18 points, Emmalee Nielsen 11, Tara Nelson nine and Hannah Leverson and Chloe Langager seven each for the Redmen (14-2). Chloe and Krista Langager each also snared seven rebounds. Maurina Street finished with 11 points and five rebounds and Isabella Anderson nine points for Milbank (10-6).

Potter County 54, Faulkton Area 45: Tyler Simon's 21 points and Ashlee Kaup's 12 led the way for PC, which also got 11 rebounds from Kaydin Cronin and nine from Emma Schlachter. Paislee Martinmaas (15 points), Carley Cotton (eight points, 11 rebounds), Kelli Stoecker (nine points) and Olivia Hadrick (seven rebounds) topped Faulkton Area.

Webster Area 39, Northwestern 34: The Bearcats (6-11) won with eight points apiece from Harley Johnson and Katie Braun, 10 rebounds from Payton Snell, six rebounds and five steals from Erin Case and six points and five rebounds from Erin Sannes. Northwestern (10-4) was led by Ella Haven, 11 points and 15 rebounds, Ashley Haven 14 rebounds and Tara Blachford 15 points.

Ipswich 43, Aberdeen Christian 27: Ashlyn Weig and Gabby Wald each notched 11 points and eight rebounds and Katie Bierman 10 and eight to lead Ipswich (2-13). Chloe Holt garnered nine points, Sophia Fogarty seven points and seven rebounds and Chloe Bosma six points and eight rebounds for AC (1-16).

Sioux Valley 65, Deuel 35: The Cossacks upped their record to 11-5 with the Lake Central Conference win, led by Landree Wilson's 18 points, Ashley Bjerke's 13, Keyra Kruse's 11 and Talya Vincent's nine. Jayce Hourigan paced Deuel (4-12) with 12.

Lac qui Parle Valley 62, Central Minnesota Christian 51 (Minn.): The Eagles (19-3) rolled with 15 points from Rylee Lund, 14 from Ayanna Gipson, 13 from Isabel Gerdes, 11 from Taylor Shelstad and nine from Camryn Lee. Lee added 10 rebounds and Shelstad six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Carrie Mulder tallied 13 points and Sienna Duininck 12 for CMC.

Highmore-Harrold 56, Hitchcock-Tulare 48 (OT): Brooke Palmer's 26-points outburst helped Highmore-Harrold prevail. Regan Westcott contributed 11 points and nine rebounds and Kendall Cermak 11 and eight. Cambree Hoekman recorded 20 points, Katelyn Schroeder 10 and Emmerie Arthurs nine for Hitchcock-Tulare.

Scores: Mobridge-Pollock 57, Timber Lake 46; Sully Buttes 45, Herreid-Selby Area 36; and Renville County West 49, Ortonville 38 (Minn.). No other details were reported.

Boys Basketball

Sioux Falls Jefferson 60, Watertown 44: A 19-6 surge in the third quarter carried top-rated Class AA Jefferson (15-0) to the non-conference win. The Cavaliers led only 30-24 at halftime before gaining control.

Kaden Year recorded 18 points, Taylen Ashley 16 and Griffin Wilde 13 for Jefferson. Ashley also had six rebounds and seven assists.

Kohen Kranz scored 14 points, Jake Olson 13 and Caden Beauchamp eight for Watertown (6-9), which hosts Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Friday at 7 p.m.

Jefferson shot 51 percent (23 of 45) from the field compared to Watertown's 33 percent (13 of 39).

Mitchell 60, Aberdeen Central 47: Third-rated Class AA Mitchell (12-3) used 18 points from Collton Smith, 12 points from Gavin Soukup, 10 points and six rebounds from Charlie McCardle and seven rebounds and seven assists from Dylan Soulek to win the Eastern South Dakota Conference game.

Carter Dingman scored 13 points and Spencer Barr 11 for the Golden Eagles (3-9), who visit Huron on Friday.

Aberdeen Christian 65, Ipswich 45: Malek Wieker recorded 20 points and six rebounds and Ethan Russell 14 and seven to help the top-rated Class B Knights (15-1) nail down the Lake Region Conference title. Jackson Isakson chipped in with 11 points and Kaden Clark 10. Trevor Heinz totaled 16 points and Chet Peterson eight points and five rebounds for Ipswich (10-4).

Waubay-Summit 59, Estelline-Hendricks 48: The Mustangs improved to 14-2 with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists from Damon Opdahl; 19 points and nine rebounds from Jackson Wohlleber; eight points and seven rebounds from Jonathan Johnston; and seven points from Jared Purdy. Braxton Saathoff scored 15 points, Joe McAninch 12, and Braxton Pravecek and Wyat James each seven for the Redhawks (9-6).

Northwestern 60, Webster Area 49: Chase Neiber recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds, Nathan Melius 16 points, Lincoln Woodring nine points and Reilly Schmitt eight points for Northwestern (11-5). Jude Ortmeier collected seven rebounds. The Bearcats (4-12) received 10 points apiece from Jeron McCreary, Matthew Mount and Brent Bearman. McCreary also hauled in 12 rebounds.

Sioux Valley 57, Deuel 47: The second-rated Class A Cossacks (14-1, 5-0 Lake Central Conference) clinched at least a share of the LCC title by getting 25 points and four assists from Oliver Vincent and 17 points and 10 rebounds from Alec Squires. Hudsyn Ruesink added nine points. Braydon Simon scored 16 points and Gavin Benck 11 for Deuel (9-4), which got six rebounds each from Benck and Ronnie Begalka.

Warner 47, Redfield 40: Hunter Cramer tallied 18 points, Brodey Sauerwein 17 points and Levi Scepaniak 13 rebounds for the Monarchs (11-6). Mitchell Mack had 16 points, Jerron Haider nine points and Justin Ratigan 13 rebounds for the Pheasants (8-9).

Deubrook Area 69, Great Plains Lutheran 63: Jake Jorenby's 25 points carried the Dolphins (5-9) to victory. Landon Johnson added 11 and Colin Bauman 10. Alex Heil had 19 points and six steals, Myles York 13 points and six rebounds, Austin Rubendall 12 points and seven rebounds, Brody Scharlemann 10 points and five assists and Micah Holien seven points for GPL (6-9).

De Smet 68, Flandreau 30: The third-rated Class B Bulldogs improved to 14-3 with 17 points and 15 rebounds from Damon Wilkinson, 12 points from Kasen Janssen and 13 points, four steals and five assists from Kadyn Fast. Paul Parsley finished with 11 points and Alfie Henderson nine for Flandreau (6-9) in the Lake Central Conference game.

Castlewood 67, Florence-Henry 31: Jamison Keszler tallied 18 points, Bryon Laue 15 and Lane Tvedt 11 to lift the Warriors (13-4). Peyton Roe scored 11 and Ty Bergh seven for the Falcons (7-8). Adam Moe hauled in eight rebounds.

Milbank 68, Sisseton 36: Joe Schulte's 22-point, seven-rebound performance sparked the Bulldogs (7-6), who also got 12 points, five rebounds and five assists from Justus Osborn; nine points from Graham Lightfield; and seven points and five steals from Jaxson Wildung. Sisseton (1-16) was led by Ethan DeSpiegler and Colter Hanson with nine points each and Dean Schultz and Carter Stickland seven apiece.

Sully Buttes 48, Highmore-Harrold 44: Landon Hepker's 17 points paced Sully Buttes (4-10). Tray Hettick had 15 for HSA (10-7).

Groton Area 62, North Central 21: Lane Tietz scored 12 points, Jacob Zak nine and Tate Larson and Gage Sippel eight apiece for the Tigers, who also got seven rebounds from Cade Larson. Cole Bukaske and Bastien Delalande each had seven points for North Central.

Miller 47, Aberdeen Roncalli 39: Spencer Fernholz (19 points), Alex Schumacher (eight) and Trevor Werdel and Isaac Hunter (seven apiece) guided Miller. Maddox Miller finished with 16 points, Maddox May seven and Caden Shelton six for the Cavaliers.
