NMS teams win host Invitational

Sep. 29—NORWALK — The Norwalk Middle School boys and girls cross country teams won their home invitational for a third straight year on Sept. 24 at the Norwalk High School course.

In the six years of the Trucker Invitational, the hosts have won the team title four times.

The girls team scored 49 points to win the eight-team field.

Grace Norris was third overall in 13:01 to lead the Truckers, while Adyson Lepley (14:12) was 10th and Allison Konik (14:20) was 12th.

The girls then had seven other runners place between 17th and 28th, respectively.

Kyla Daniels (15:10) was 17th, followed by Anna Whaley (15:33) in 20th; Gretchen Willer (15:37) in 21st; Lily Ware (16:05) in 23rd; Piper Rupp (16:43) in 26th; Ivy Nardecchia (16:52) in 27th; and Kaitlyn Bogner (17:05) in 28th. Madeline Clark (20:31) was41st and Skyler Ervin (21:36) was 43rd.

In the boys race, Kingston Gonzales was the overall winner in 11:40. He was among five runners in the top 10 for the Truckers.

Caiden Schmidt (12:49) was third, followed by Roman Snyder (12:55) in sixth, Adam Slate (13:09) in ninth and Nolan Jones (13:15) in 10th.

Four more runners were in the 15-to-24 finish, including Xavier Saunders (13:32) in 15th, Derione Johnson (13:49) in 18th, Jason Cruz (13:55) in 19th and Beau Riley (714:04) in 24th.

Rounding out the NMS boys lineup was Connor Lucas (15:28, 31st), Kadden Gede (15:29, 32nd), Logan Corbin (15:54, 35th), Caleb Thompson (17:32, 42nd) and Joel Henderson (17:45, 44th).

VOLLEYBALL

NMS teams split Lake matches

NORWALK — The Norwalk Middle School volleyball teams each split a pair of SBC Lake matches on Monday and Wednesday.

On Monday, the seventh-grade team defeated Clyde, 25-16, 25-22.

Ainlsee King was 7 for 7 serving with four aces and six digs, and Maddie Gamble was 12 for 13 serving with four aces, 12 digs and eight blocks. Piper Richardson was 6 for 7 serving, and Sophia Ames had four serve receive passes.

"It was a great team win to beat Clyde," head coach Olivia Gamble said. "The team made great adjustments and pulled out a great effort."

The eighth-grade team fell to 9-4 overall and 4-4 in the Lake with a two-set loss (25-23, 25-21) to the Fliers.

On Wednesday, the seventh-grade team lost to Perkins at home, 26-24, 20-25 and 27-25. The eighth-grade team won over the Pirates, 25-13 and 25-19.

Norwalk served 15 aces as a team in the win, and totaled 10 kills at the net.

"Overall, it was a great team effort and every player contributed to the win in some way," Gamble said.

Norwalk will host Sandusky on Wednesday next week in its home finale.

St. Paul sweeps Edison

NORWALK — The St. Paul junior high teams defeated Edison for non-league wins on Tuesday.

The seventh-grade team won 25-12 and 25-14.

Meredith Bores was7 for 7 serving with two aces, and Piper Hipp was 7 for 7 with an ace. Brooklyn Cassidy had five kills, while Hipp had four and Bores added two. Layla Fair finished with five assists and Elsie Shumaker had four.

St Paul won the eighth-grade match, 25-11, 25-11.

Annie Friend was 17 for 17 serving with five aces, while Sydney Wurzel was 7 for 9 with two aces and Ella Kalizewski was 10 for 12 with an ace. Friend had seven kills, followed by Kalizewski with four and Avery Gibson with three.

Kalizewski also had seven assists and Friend added five.
