Nick Saban provides injury update on two Alabama football starters ahead of SEC Championship Game

·2 min read

Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. pulled a lower body muscle in the win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl, Nick Saban said Sunday.

Robinson exited the game late. Saban said Alabama will see how Robinson progresses through the week.

"We'll see where he is at," Saban said. "I can't tell you anymore than that right now."

Meanwhile, starting cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis did not play against Auburn. He was dealing with a "little hip injury" and was not full speed.

"So we will see he responds this week and see if he can be able to play in this game," Saban said. That's something that will be kind of day to day as well."

Before exiting the game, Robinson ran for 64 yards on 15 carries. Thirty-seven of those yards came via one run.

Trey Sanders, the only other healthy scholarship running back that Alabama has available, finished with 10 attempts for 23 yards.

"He did a nice job with catching the ball," Saban said. "He did a good job in block protection, especially in some critical passing situations. When they blitzed, he made great pickups. Ran the ball fairly effectively. We were pleased."

Alabama is already without Jase McClellan for the year, and Roydell Williams also has a long-term injury. Meanwhile, freshman running back Camar Wheaton has not been healthy enough to play this season.

With Armour-Davis out, Josh Jobe and freshman Kool-Aid McKinstry started against Auburn at cornerback. Down the stretch, McKinstry had a crucial sack to push the Tigers out of field goal range, and he also broke up the pass on a two-point try in the fourth overtime period.

Against Arkansas the previous week, Armour-Davis started at one spot while Jobe started the game at the other. But he was benched after struggling against receiver Treylon Burks, and McKinstry replaced him.
