Nia Vardalos pays sweet tribute to My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Michael Constantine after his death

My Big Fat Greek Wedding's Nia Vardalos has paid loving tribute to co-star Michael Constantine following the news of his death, aged 94.
The late actor took on the role of Gus Portokalos, father to Vardalos's character Toula Portokalos, who was famous for his obsession over Windex and belief that it is a cure-all.
Constantine's family confirmed that he passed away on August 31 in his home in Reading, Pennsylvania, and had been ill for some time.

Vardalos, who also wrote the hit 2002 comedy, tweeted a picture of the movie's cast together as she spoke about her late co-star.
"Michael Constantine, the dad to our cast-family, a gift to the written word, and always a friend," she said. "Acting with him came with a rush of love and fun.
"I will treasure this man who brought Gus to life. He gave us so much laughter and deserves a rest now. We love you Michael."

The star also posted a picture of Constantine with her real-life father, saying: "Michael Constantine as 'Gus' and my real dad Constantine 'Gus' Vardalos, onset #MyBigFatGreekWedding2. May both dads Rest In Peace."

As well as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Constantine reprised the role for the movie's 2016 sequel, as well as short-lived TV series My Big Fat Greek Life.
He also appeared in numerous TV shows, including ABC comedy-drama Room 222, which was created by The Simpsons' James L Brooks and earned Constantine the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Other credits included Law & Order, MacGyver, Magnum PI and Murder, She Wrote.
