From the not-that-unexpected department, a brawl erupted during a joint Raiders-Rams training camp practice on Friday.

Reporters on the scene noted that it occured with Oakland’s offense working against Los Angeles’ defense with both head coaches entering the fray to break it up.

Nick Bosa suffers 'dreaded high-ankle sprain'

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch told local radio station KNBR on Thursday that No. 2 overall draft pick Nick Bosa will miss the entire preseason with a high-ankle sprain suffered during Wednesday’s practice.

Patrick Mahomes will play 1st quarter of preseason opener

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid has announced that reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes will play the entire first quarter of the Chiefs’ preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday.

Established starters, particularly quarterbacks, are typically held out of as much preseason game action as possible to cut down on injury risk, but it appears Reid is confident enough to put Mahomes out there for a few series.

Though if ‘Showtime’ is going to uncork throws like this, fans won’t have much to complain about:

Cowboys RB Tony Pollard turning heads

With Ezekiel Elliott holding out, there is an opening in the Cowboys backfield.

Tony Pollard, a rookie out of Memphis, has caught the attention of at least one key teammate.

Dak Prescott said he’s been a standout so far in training camp. Via The Dallas Morning News:

“One of the most exciting players to me of this training camp,” Prescott said. "The things that he's been able to do running the ball, catching the ball out of the backfield. He's making plays.

“And he's really an intelligent dude. A really smart guy. When we're in the offense, or in the offensive unit, or in the team meetings, anytime coach calls him out on his responsibility, without a hesitation he's getting that right. That's what you want to see from a young guy.”

What does Texans-Browns trade mean for each team?

There was a significant trade on Thursday, when the Browns sent running back Duke Johnson to the Texans for a conditional pick. The deal affects both teams’ backfields over the rest of training camp, as they try to figure out the depth chart.

Browns: The Browns had resisted trading Johnson, a great pass catcher out of the backfield, even though he requested it. Now that he’s gone, the Browns need to build backfield depth over the rest of camp behind Nick Chubb. Dontrell Hilliard, a 2018 undrafted free agent who had nine catches for 105 yards as a rookie, might be the main backup. D'Ernest Johnson, who played in the Alliance of American Football, is behind Chubb and Hilliard. Kareem Hunt has to serve an eight-game suspension, and the Browns need to figure out the pecking order behind Chubb for the first half of the season. There isn’t much proven depth.

Texans: The Texans needed to find a backup to Lamar Miller after cutting D’Onta Foreman, and Johnson instantly becomes the second-best back on the roster. He might end up with a good share of the snaps at running back, because Miller is a limited back. What the Texans need to figure out over the rest of camp is how Johnson fits and if he can be more than a designated pass catcher. Johnson has only 299 carries over four NFL seasons, but a passable 4.3-yard average on those attempts.
