Chris Jones at Chiefs camp amid contract dispute

Chris Jones reportedly wants a new deal, but the emerging Kansas City Chiefs defender isn’t holding out of training camp. After missing the team’s earlier summer activities, Jones arrived at camp on time Friday.

Jones is in the final year of his rookie contract and is scheduled to make $1.2 million. He had a breakout season last year, tallying 15.5 sacks and a pick-six in the regular season.

Jimmy G cleared for practice

After tearing the ACL in his left knee early last season, Jimmy Garoppolo is ready for a second shot at launching his San Francisco 49ers career. Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced on Friday that Garoppolo has passed a physical and is cleared for practice.

Antonio Brown takes hot air balloon to camp

Of course Antonio Brown made a spectacle out of his Oakland Raiders training camp debut. The All-Pro wide receiver took a hot air balloon over Napa Valley for Friday’s camp opener.

Once he got to camp, though, Brown was reportedly placed on the non-football injury list.

Other elaborate arrivals

Brown wasn’t the only NFL player with elaborate camp transportation Friday.

Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman showed up in a race car.

Not to be outdone, punter Dustin Colquitt was driving some serious military equipment.

Derrick Henry, A.J. Brown exit Titans practice early

There’s worrisome news out of Titans camp as running back Derrick Henry and wide receiver A.J. Brown, the team’s second-round pick, both left practice and didn’t return. Brown appeared to slip on this route before leaving with trainers.

Asked about them after practice, coach Mike Vrabel reportedly did not seem concerned, deeming them both day-to-day.

Redskins rotating Colt McCoy, Case Keenum

With top pick Dwayne Haskins in camp and a quarterback decision on the horizon, the Washington Redskins are not giving anything away.

After sending former Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos starter Case Keenum out with the first team on the initial day of practice, Colt McCoy took reps with the starters on Friday.

Kimberley A. Martin recently assessed the upcoming battle for the top spot.

Giants lose another receiver

A day after Sterling Shepard suffered a broken thumb, the New York Giants announced that Corey Coleman has a torn ACL.

Shalise Manza Young has more on the latest setback for the former Cleveland Browns first-rounder.

Newton already showing off the deep ball

Recovering from shoulder surgery and having his reps monitored, Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton is nonetheless turning heads with his arm early on in camp. With his health the obvious question in Panthers camp, a deep ball to Curtis Samuel demanded attention.

The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue reported there is now “palpable optimism” about Newton’s progress and performance.
