Drew Brees may be retiring from football, but the 20-year NFL veteran isn't leaving the game behind. Less than 24 hours after announcing the end of his playing days, he already has his next gig lined up.

In an interview on NBC's "Today Show" Monday, the longtime New Orleans Saints quarterback announced that he's joining the NBC Sports broadcast team as a football analyst.

"I'm part of the team now, a new team," Brees said. "I'm excited about that journey. I'm excited to stay very closely connected with the game of football, it's been such an important part of my life. I continue to be able to talk about it, show a passion for it, and be able to bring my kids along for the ride there as well, and let them be part of those special moments."

According to NBC, Brees will be a studio analyst for "Football Night in America" and a game analyst for NBC Sports' coverage of Notre Dame football. He'll also be part of NBC's Super Bowl LVI team in 2022, and he'll work other prominent non-football events like the upcoming Olympics.

Pete Bevacqua, the chairman of NBC Sports Group, said in a statement that they're excited to welcome Brees and his famous positivity to their crew.

"We’re excited to have Drew join our team. We know that Drew will apply the same work ethic and continuously positive attitude to everything he touches at NBC Sports and we know, as his new teammates, he’ll make us better."

Brees' NBC announcement isn't exactly a surprise. We already knew that he had a job at NBC waiting for him whenever he decided to retire. But now it's officially official. It's good news for Saints fans, because they won't have to go through total Brees withdrawal — even though they might wish he was still on the field instead of in the broadcast booth.
