Newton girls golf finishes sixth at Linda Bloom Invitational

May 1—MARSHALLTOWN — Newton's girls golf team wrapped up a busy week of golf on Thursday.

The Cardinals played their fourth 18-hole tournament in eight days when they competed in the Linda Bloom Invitational at Elmwood Country Club.

The tournament included 15 schools and Newton finished sixth with a 410.

"We have had a busy week with four days of 18-hole meets," Newton girls golf coach Ashley Kahler said. "The fatigue kind of caught up with us."

Rylee Heryford was the runner-up medalist with an 80 but every other Cardinal score was 105 or higher. Heryford's nine-hole split was 39-41.

Abby Price (105), Bekah Vasseau (109) and Ella Price (116) had the other counting scores. Marin Pettigrew (122) and Madison Price (128) carded non-counting scores.

"I was disappointed with the scores," Kahler said. "I don't believe we were locked in. It was a tight course with a tough walk. We will rest up and be ready for next week."

Host Marshalltown won the tournament with a 361. The Bobcats had four scores under 100 and Amber Henson was the meet medalist with a 72.

The rest of the 15-team field included Southeast Polk (380), Dallas Center-Grimes (390), Ames (395), Mason City (407), Ankeny Centennial (431), Waukee (432), Urbandale (436), Nevada (445), Grundy Center (455), Fort Dodge (485), Ottumwa (490), Des Moines Roosevelt (589) and Grinnell (no team score).
