Newton boys kept out of win column by Indianola

Dec. 5—INDIANOLA — Indianola got off to a strong start and then eliminated a chance of a Newton comeback during a big third period during a 74-54 home win over the Cardinals on Friday.

Indianola shot 56 percent from the floor and had big advantages in free throws attempted and made during a Little Hawkeye Conference boys' basketball game.

Newton trailed 25-17 after one quarter and was outscored 26-11 in the third. The Cardinals won the second and fourth 26-23.

Brody Bauer led the Cardinals with 13 points and two assists and Tade Vanderlaan added 11 points.

Cole Plowman finished with eight points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks, Carson Satterfield added seven points and three rebounds and Jake Ingle chipped in five points, four boards and two assists.

Caleb Mattes, Kacey Sommars, Ian Reynolds and Moses Slaughter all contributed two rebounds.

Newton (0-2 overall, 0-1 in the LHC) shot 38.5 percent from the floor, made 8-of-28 from 3-point range and hit 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Four Indians scored in double-figures, led by Drew Kingery's 15 points and seven rebounds and Brady Blake's 15 points and five boards. Indianola (2-0, 1-0) was 19-of-23 from the foul line.
