Newport teenager accused of Memorial Day weekend murder indicted

The teenager accused of murder outside a Memorial Day weekend party in Newport will now face his charge in a higher court.

The Rhode Island Attorney General's office announced Monday that Tyrese Poulsen, 19, has been indicted by a statewide grand jury on one count of murder.

Poulsen is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 16 in Newport County Superior Court.

He is accused of stabbing Maximus Julian, 22, of Little Compton, during a fight at a party at a short-term rental property on Thames Street in Newport.

Police report that just after midnight on Sunday, May 30, they were called to 548 Thames St. after a disturbance. When police arrived, Julian was found critically injured and transported to Newport Hospital.

Julian's father, Diago, told The Daily News prior to Poulsen's arrest that while on the way to Newport Hospital, his son died but first responders were able to resuscitate and stabilize him.

While later being transported to Rhode Island Hospital, Maximus died a second time, though was again stabilized and resuscitated. By that point, Maximus was brain dead.

Days after the incident Poulsen turned himself in to Newport police and was charged with murder. He has been held without bail since bail hearings took place in June.
