Toronto’s own New York Knicks guard RJ Barrett has been listed as questionable to play against his hometown Raptors Wednesday due to illness.

His presence in the NBA has been the highlight of the next massive wave of Canadian talent spreading throughout the league. Barrett gets the spotlight, but New Orleans Pelicans’ Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and the Memphis Grizzlies’ duo of Brandon Clarke and Dillon Brooks have been prominent examples of the nation’s rise in the sport.

The country’s sole team becoming NBA champions also helps.

The third-overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, Barrett has averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists through 16 games this season.

The Knicks hold a 4-13 record and sit far out of the playoffs at 14th in the Eastern Conference.
