There’s nothing good about taking two high sticks directly to the face. But Islanders forward Mat Barzal was able to make the situation work for him in an interview during the second intermission of the game against the Winnipeg Jets.

With a little bit of quick wit, the 22-year-old was able to respond in a memorable way.

A quote that is sure to stick with him for a while and a clip that will spread like wildfire through Twitter.

Both high sticks occurred in the second period of the game in Winnipeg, certainly not a moment to “rise and shine” for if you’re on the Islanders.

But through two periods, Barzal had both goals for New York, battling through his lips swelling like a balloon.

One has to wonder if there’s a potential new deal between him and Jenner. Barzal suddenly getting a new lip kit deal out of this wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen.

On the season, the Islanders forward has three goals and six points in seven games.
