NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn has been a big proponent of no excuses for failing to get a job done. He has maintained this belief ever since his days as a player and he continues to preach that to his players to this day. That’s what made Thursday so disappointing for Vaughn and the Nets.

“You know I’m not going to allow that to happen.” Vaughn said about chalking up the bad performance due to it being a second half of a back-to-back after being upset by the Detroit Pistons on Thursday by a score of 130-122. “There’s no excuses. You know, we all play the same amount of games throughout the course of the year. And the schedule dictates its own cell for each team.” In the first half of this back-to-back, Brooklyn traveled to Philadelphia on Wednesday to take on the 76ers. The Nets lost that game 137-133 and it seemed like a playoff atmosphere so it’s possible that game could’ve drained the energy out of the Nets.

However, part of the reason that the Nets lost to the Pistons was because of the effort. There were more than a few times that one could see Brooklyn going through the motions or playing without a sense of urgency. Once Detroit got its confidence up, it was too late for Brooklyn to flip that switch and start playing how they’re supposed to. The Pistons out-rebounded the Nets 48-40 and Detroit out-scored Brooklyn in points in the paint 60-50.

This was the first time that the Pistons have won in Brooklyn in almost five years. The last time that the Pistons won at Barclays Center was April 1, 2018.
