Netflix's 'Cheer' Breakout Star Jerry Harris GoFundMe Flooded With Donations From Fans

The breakout star of Netflix’s docuseries “Cheer”, Jerry Harris, is thanking fans for flooding him with donations.

The Netflix show premiered this month and 18-year-old Jerry was the standout of the series. His positive attitude and hard work ethic, despite losing his mom to cancer, made him a fan favorite.

The show is described as, “This gripping docuseries follows the ups and downs of Navarro College's competitive cheer squad as they work to win a coveted national title.”

Jerry was open about the struggles he faced after losing his mother, Lizzie Bowman, to cancer. A group named “Cheer moms for Jerry” was launched to help raise funds for Jerry in 2016 and a GoFundMe was put together.

Goodbye Hollywood, Hello Netflix.

The group wrote, “Cheer moms for Jerry' is a group of moms that know Jeremiah "Jerry" Harris from all-star cheer. Our goal is to provide financial and emotional support for Jerry after the death of his mom, Lizzie Bowman. Jerry is one of the most amazing and inspiring young men we have ever had the pleasure to meet. During a time in his life when so many other teenage boys are out running around with friends and finding trouble, Jerry honored his mother by working diligently in school, taking care of his mom, and cheering with his all-star gym.”

The GoFundMe was reactivated after people started reaching out after “Cheer” premiered. The campaign has a $50,000 goal, which $37,000 has already been raised. The donations continue to flood in by the minute.

Jerry has been overwhelmed by the support writing on Instagram, “ Hey guys!I want to thank you all so much for all of the love and support you have shown me! I never in a million years thought that I would get this kind of attention, especially from people outside the cheer world! It is crazy! I have been blessed to have some kind and loving people in my life. My “cheer moms” have looked out for me and helped me since I lost my mom when I was 16. Since CHEER came out, several people have reached out asking how they could help me. In response my cheer moms reactivated the Gofundme that they set up for me four years ago. I am overwhelmed at the response and generosity. I don’t really have the words to express how thankful I am for all of this and all of you. I have been so blessed in life and I’m so grateful for all of this love! Thank you all so much! I love you all so much!❤️ “
