Netflix ice skating drama Spinning Out has been axed after just one series.

The show, which starred Mad Men’s January Jones and British-born Pirates of the Caribbean star Kaya Scodelario, aired 10 episodes and premiered on 1 January this year.

But according to Deadline, it won't be back for a second run.

It was created by Samantha Stratton, herself a former top level figure skater, and followed Scodelario as a talented young skater from a working class family who suffers a potentially career ending injury.

However, she's offered the chance of a comeback with a male partner as a pairs skater with Olympic potential.

But while also struggling with her new partnership, she is also trying to conceal her bipolar disorder, which her mother, played by Jones, also suffers.

The show aired to middling reviews from critics, and Netflix reportedly monitors series viewership data over a month before deciding its fate.

It's not the first show to suffer the axe after a single season.

The streaming studio canned musical drama Soundtrack in similar short order only last month.

Last year, Netflix cancelled more than 25 series in all, a figure double that of 2018, including Marvel shows like Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

It also canned cult show The OA after two series, causing uproar and protests among fans.
