Bridgerton fans have reason to celebrate. Variety reports that in addition to additional seasons of the sexy series, Netflix announced that a series about a young Queen Charlotte is on the way. Shonda Rhimes will write and executive produce the series, which still doesn't have a title, and will also feature younger versions of fan-favorite characters Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.

"As we continue to expand the world of Bridgerton, we now have the opportunity to devote even more of the Shondaland fold to the Bridgerton-verse," Rhimes told Variety. "We've worked with Jess Brownell for over a decade and have long wanted to find the right project to place in her hands. When it came time to pass the baton, I knew this unique voice was vital to the future of the show."

Netflix calls the series an effort to add even more to the Bridgerton streaming universe, which adapted novels by Julia Quinn. The streamer also noted that it's prepping all the upcoming seasons at once — 3 and 4 have already been confirmed — so fans won't have to wait long to get their fix.

"Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I'm thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton," Netflix's Head of Global TV Bela Bajaria said. "Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled."

Season 1 debuted on Christmas Day back in 2020. The show went on to become the fifth-largest Netflix original series launch to date. In addition to being a star turn for lead actor Regé-Jean Page, the show created a shortage of corsets, thrust string quartet covers of pop songs to the top streaming charts, and earned a legion of loyal celebrity fans, including Kim Kardashian and Brie Larson.
