NEPA reports fewest new COVID-19 cases since Oct. 6

May 16—A seven-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania on Sunday reported the fewest new COVID-19 cases in more than seven months, according to data from the state Department of Health.

The local region, consisting of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties recorded 67 new cases Sunday. It marked the smallest daily increase in cases since 35 on Oct. 6.

The region reported seven new deaths Sunday, the most since Tuesday. Lackawanna County led the way with three. To date, 1,830 people have died from the virus in Northeast Pennsylvania.

There were an additional 1,111 cases reported across the state Sunday, raising the total to 1,186,243.

Another 67 new deaths reported statewide Sunday increased the total number to 26,816.

In the local counties:

Lackawanna added 15 cases for 18,188 total, including 2,809 probable. Three new deaths raised the total to 470.

Luzerne added 21 cases for 31,307 total, including 2,510 probable. One new death raised the total to 803.

Monroe added 20 cases for 14,511 total, including 439 probable. Two new deaths raised the total to 310.

Pike added one case for 3,915 total, including 405 probable, and remained at 54 deaths.

Susquehanna added three cases for 2,570 total, including 323 probable, and remained at 62 deaths.

Wayne added three cases for 4,027 total, including 416 probable, and remained at 80 deaths.

Wyoming added four cases for 1,899 total, including 332 probable. One new death raised the total to 51.
