NCAA basketball betting: Gonzaga, Baylor among favorites to win national title

Believe it or not, college basketball starts this week.

The 2019 season ended abruptly and without an NCAA tournament being played due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eight months later, we’re still dealing with the effects of the virus.

Ahead of the first batch of games on Wednesday, there have been a bevy of programs forced to pause activities or even postpone their openers due to positive COVID-19 tests. Despite the inevitable disruptions (much like we’ve seen in college football), there are dozens of games on the docket for Wednesday.

And based on the national championship title odds from BetMGM, things are completely wide open and there is no clear favorite to win it all.

The two teams topping the national title odds are Gonzaga and Baylor, the top two teams in the preseason Associated Press Top 25. Both teams are listed at +800 with Virginia and Villanova next in line at +900.

Iowa is the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten and listed with +1000 odds to win it all. Kentucky, entering its 12th season with John Calipari at the helm, is listed at +1100 alongside Kansas.

Other notable odds include Duke at +1400, Illinois having the second-best odds out of the Big Ten (also +1400) and Louisville at +3000.
