NC 4th of July Festival events canceled Saturday; firefighters' competition moved to Sunday
The NC 4th of July Festival has canceled all events for Saturday because of potential impacts from Tropical Storm Colin.
"The safety of Festival-goers, vendors, volunteers, emergency workers, and everyone is our highest priority," organizers said in a press release.
Tropical Storm Colin formed overnight just south of Georgetown, South Carolina. It's expected to move up the coast into North Carolina Saturday afternoon. Tropical-storm-force winds and heavy rainfall are expected.

New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties were under a tropical storm warning as of midday Saturday.
The festival is expected to continue on Sunday and Monday. And the firefighters' competition has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday. The opening ceremony will be at 111 E. Nash St. All competitive events are scheduled to occur. Teams are still welcome to register now.
