NBA Twitter reacts to Lakers hiring Darvin Ham as head coach

On Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers hired Darvin Ham to be their next head coach.
Ham has never been a head coach in the NBA before, but he has an extensive history as an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks, Atlanta Hawks and even the Lakers themselves.
Many around the league think highly of him as a strong leader who has outstanding communication skills.
Across Twitter, people reacted in a mostly positive way to the news of the Lakers hiring Ham, although there was a bit of humor about him joining a team that had just finished a disastrous season.
But overall, just about everyone is lauding the move.
Darvin Ham gets to pick his own staff? Lakers trying to be a serious franchise?

If Darvin Ham can get the Lakers to play with the same energy he had as a college and pro player they gonna be out there dunking on everybody next year.

WHO KNOWS? MAYBE DARVIN HAM WILL TURN INTO THE NEXT IME UDOKA OR WILLIE GREEN – INSTANT RISING STAR COACH. BUT IT'S HIGHLY LIKELY PHIL JACKSON & KURT RAMBIS PUSHED FOR THE COACH THEY LIKELIEST CAN COACH – A 48-YEAR-OLD FIRST-TIME HEAD COACH. SOME "PUPPET" POTENTIAL HERE.

Darvin Ham is an excellent hire for the Lakers. Widely respected as an assistant, paid his dues. Has an Ime Udoka-like background (ex-player, longtime assistant). Could be a Udoka-level coach.

The Lakers are heading in the right direction. Now Darvin Ham mission is complete, you have to let Darvin pick his coaching staff to build back this franchise around him as the next great head coach since Phil Jackson and Pat Riley. Phil Handy should be the first priority. https://t.co/hVMiX1JiHx

I first met Darvin Ham when he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1999. He is one of my favorite people that has come through the organization since my dad started working there. Darvin is a true competitor with grit but also a great guy. The Lakers made a great hire! #lakeshow pic.twitter.com/3Hw8k9WFYb

If they bring back Phil Handy as an assistant and working with coach Darvin Ham….. my goodness, the chemistry duo is a championship duo right there. If I'm the Lakers, let Darvin Ham bring in his men and also bring back Phil Handy to work with Darvin Ham together.

My first year covering the NBA, I connected with a journeyman glue guy who everybody in the Hawks locker room liked & respected. He'd break down plays for me. We'd debate hip hop & discuss world events. He knew his stuff. Twenty years later, Darvin Ham is head coach of the Lakers

Darvin Ham was the best candidate to be the head coach. He was a champion as a player, a champion as an assistant coach, had experience coaching the Lakers and has the respect of the players. He checked every box the team had. The Lakers are on the right track#LakeShow
