Portland forward Zach Collins to undergo left shoulder surgery

Portland Trail Blazers forward Zach Collins will undergo left shoulder surgery, the team announced on Saturday afternoon.

Collins injured his shoulder in Portland’s 121-119 win against the Dallas Mavericks last week. Late in the third quarter, Collins attempted to grab a rebound alongside Dallas star Luka Doncic, and came down grabbing his left shoulder in pain.

The former Gonzaga standout walked right off the floor and into the locker room, where the training staff reportedly “cleanly” popped his shoulder back into place. Collins finished the night with 10 points and three rebounds.

A date for the surgery has not yet been set. The team will determine a timeline for his return following the surgery.

The 21-year-old averaged 6.6 points and 4.2 rebounds off the bench last season in Portland, his second in the league. He’s averaged nine points and four rebounds in his three games with the Trail Blazers this fall, starting in all three contests.

Portland has lost two of its past three without Collins, including falling to the Philadelphia 76ers 129-128 on Saturday.

After injuring his shoulder against the Mavericks last week, Portland big man Zach Collins will now require surgery.
